  1. David Nims, the "cousin" who has done so much of the work to put this narrative on line, has kindly offered to let me be the first to post on the blog. Sadly, I am not entirely sure what a blog is nor what I should say here. However, if any of you wish to offer any comments/additions/corrections, please do so. I sincerely hope you have enjoyed the narrative.

  2. I am a great grandson of William and Dinah Nutter. I hail from the Gibbon, Nebraska area. My dad, William Franklin Nutter farmed adjacent to the Maribeau Nutter farm just west of their place. My brothers were William Robert Nutter and Gene Douglas Nutter who named me unbeknownst to my mom and dad for their two middle names Douglas Robert Nutter when they circulated my new name amongst the neighbors. My folks decided to stick with the name, I guess

You mentioned William and Dinah's belongings when they boarded the ship. Several decades ago, I went to Ben and Demee Robertson's (Wm F. Nutter's cousin) farm sale to buy the "trunk" that had crossed the Atlantic Ocean 3 times. It was a simple wooden box painted a dark blue green with milk based paint. I gave it to my brother Bill (William) as he was the one most interested in family history. My niece Beth inherited it when Bill passed on. She still has the trunk.

I'm 73 now and could relate a few more stories if you are interested.

    1. Hi Doug -

Great to hear from you! I'm glad that you have read the Nutter story, and even happier that you posted on the blog ... a first, after Mike's which really doesn't count as I twisted his arm.

I'd love to get a picture of the trunk, if Beth could take one and send it to me.

As to stories, I'm always interested. That's mainly why I'm involved in recording family history. There are two ways to deal with stories. If they are ancient enough that it would make sense to do so, I can work them into the Nutter story. Another alternative is to create separate webpages for the people/families involved. You may not be aware that I also maintain a website for family pictures and history (extended families of Carol and me). I have a page for William and Dinah Nutter, that is short version of the Nutter story.

      http://www.nims-leistiko.info/Nims-Leistiko/WilliamDinahNutter.htm

You'll see links to pages for their son John (my line), William (I needed to add pages for his line, to eventually get to one of his descendants, who had contacted me), and Jennie (who married Will Hogg and my grandmother lived with as a girl).

I could add a page for Frank, and on down to you, or just to the folks who are involved in your stories. And your stories don't have to be in your Nutter line. They can be in the lines of anyone who married into the family.

Here is a link to the index of family members for which I have webpages.

Let me know what you have and what you would be willing to share online.

      All the best,

      Dave

  3. Hi Dave and Nutter relatives. I'm Cindy Fine. My grandfather was Wesley Scott, Jr., his mother was Alice Nutter Scott. I'm looking forward to a trip with my sister this fall to Ireland and England. We'll be with a tour group in Ireland, then on our own as we take the ferry from Dublin to Liverpool and then travel on to the ancestral home in the Reedley Hallows area. I'm hoping we can see the sights and get around on bicycle or foot. I'm not too enthusiastic about the business of driving on the left!

Although I've enjoyed traveling in the US, Canada and Mexico, this will be my first trip off the continent (if you don't count Hawaii). At 61, I've decided it's time. If the Nutters could cross the Atlantic three times, I ought to be able to make one round trip!

I'd welcome any tips or suggestions you might have.

    Thanks,
    Cindy

    1. Cynthia - How fun! I haven't been to the Reedley Hallows area personally, but I'll refer you to Michael Scheuer, who spent a lot of time there. He should have some tips. Thanks for posting! Dave

  4. Hello Dave and relatives! I am Lisa Evans from San Jose, CA. My sister Darcy and I grew up in Houston, Texas, but both of our parents are from Oregon. I am a great great granddaughter of William and Dinah Nutter via their daughter Elsa Theodora Nutter and her husband John William Evans, their son Howard and wife Myrtle via their son Gordon and 1st wife Janet. Two of my parents, Gordon and Judy Evans recently found the site and told the family about it. I'm fascinated with all the information and stories that have been gathered! Thank you for having the blog so that the family can connect! Lisa zinabeach@yahoo.com

    1. Hi Lisa - Great to hear from you! Your family (John and Elsa) were very close to my family (John and Beatrice Hogg), as Elsa and Beatrice were sisters, and lived close. There are pictures of John and Elsa attending one of our family gatherings in Vancouver. http://www.nims-leistiko.info/Nims-Leistiko/JohnBeatriceHogg.htm

You'll see from the link that I also maintain a family website. You're welcome to add pictures/history of your family. I'll contact you via e-mail.

      Thanks so much for posting.

      All the best,

      Dave

  5. Thank you Dave. I love seeing the family photos! It is wonderful to hear that our families were close. I met my Great Grandma Elsa a few times when I was a child and now treasure those memories. I realized after looking more closely at the link that you sent that I forgot to include one generation. Elsa was William and Dinah Nutter's granddaughter via their son John Nutter and his wife Anna Carlson. I look forward to your e-mail about the family website!

    Take care, Lisa

    1. Hi - So pleased you found the book, and even more pleased that you posted a comment on the blog. As near as I can determine, you are descended from John (1709) and Elizabeth (Berry) Nutter's son Richard, and I am descended from their son Robert. Do I have this right? Feel free to contact me via email to continue this discussion. All the best. Dave

  7. I came across the excellent and very interesting life story of William & Dinah Nutter (still not finished reading it) and thought I'd leave you a comment. I live in the Pendle area of Lancashire and my gt grandfather was Henry Nutter (his wife was Isabella Robinson) of Barrowford. No idea if Henry Nutter is in any way related to William, but I thought that I'd say hello.

    1. Cool! Good to hear from you. I’ll check with Michael, who did most of the research regarding a possible connection. Any details you have regarding Henry’s line would be helpful. So glad you’re finding the book interesting. Take care. Dave

    2. Anniegirl - Did a little research on MyHeritage, and found there is indeed a connection between your family and mine, though it starts way back in 1597 with the marriage of John Nutter (1565 or 1567) to Ann Ingham(e). Their son John (1599) is the brother of my ancestor Ellis (1602) which you'll find listed in the chapter on 'Genealogy Showing the Paternal Ancestry of William Nutter'. From John (1599), his son Robert (1625), his son Robert (1665), his son Richard (1691), his son Richard (1719), his son Henry (1746), his son Richard (1777), his son Richard (1805), to his son Henry (1837) who married Isabella Robinson. So we are indeed distant cousins, albeit very distant.

  8. Hi Dave, we've met through email correspondence a few times. William and Dinah are my GGG-Grandparents.
+ William Nutter & Dinah Ingham
+ Willam H Nutter & Laura Myrtle Comstock
+ Banks Lincoln Nutter & Isabella Jane Whitcher
    + Grandmother & Grandfather
    + Mother & Father
    + Me

For the record, I found your Nutter history site while researching the family tree passed down to me from one of my great aunts. Since the last time we were in contact I've received several family photos which I believe you may be able to use, if you would like them. My grandmother, God rest her soul and bless her heart, kept every photo she ever received, which includes photos of Banks & Isabella Nutter and, I think, one or two of William & Laura Nutter, Banks' parents. I'll send some to you this week.
